Removal of a glandular polyp: treatment methods

Endometrial polyps are benign formations in the cavity of the reproductive organ, which sometimes degenerate into a malignant form. To begin timely treatment, it is important to conduct a thorough diagnosis and identify the type of tumor. At the Other Gynecology clinic in Moscow, surgeons use several methods to safely remove a glandular polyp .

Diagnostics

The “Other Gynecology” clinic will use three methods for diagnosing glandular polyps:

  1. Transvaginal ultrasound of the pelvic organs. This initial diagnostic method helps to establish the presence of a polyp in the uterus and exclude a cancerous process. The method does not allow us to determine the type of formation and its structure.
  2. Hysteroscopy. During the examination, a microscopic video camera and instruments are inserted into the uterus. The procedure is performed under intravenous anesthesia for a short time. The image on the monitor clearly shows the internal structures of the fallopian tubes, cervix and its cavity. Most often, hysteroscopy is performed to simultaneously remove the formation.
  3. Histological analysis. After removing the tumor from the uterus, it is sent to the laboratory for examination. Based on the results of the analysis, further treatment is prescribed.

Treatment

A doctor at the Other Gynecology Clinic may recommend the following treatment methods:

  • Waiting tactics. Small or medium-sized polyps may disappear on their own. If a woman does not have a hereditary predisposition to uterine cancer, then doctors monitor the formation.
  • Operation. During hysteroscopy, the doctor removes the glandular polyp and curettages the uterine cavity.

Drug treatment is rarely used, mainly when it is impossible to carry out intervention. The operation to remove the polyp is performed under general anesthesia in the clinic. The intervention lasts up to 30 minutes, and the woman can go home after 2-3 hours.

During the rehabilitation period, a woman may notice slight spotting, which is normal. For complete recovery, it is important to maintain sexual rest and regularly wash the area of the external genitalia.

Sometimes hormone therapy is prescribed before surgery. It is used to reduce the symptoms of a glandular polyp or reduce the size of the tumor so that it is easier to remove. The use of hormones after removal of a polyp is necessary for the rapid restoration of the menstrual cycle and hormonal levels.

Recurrences of the glandular polyp are possible due to incomplete removal of the stalk of the formation. But at the Other Gynecology clinic, surgeons carefully remove all components of the formations in the uterus.
